Itinerary
Day 1: Into the Jungle’s Embrace – Proboscis Monkeys & River Secrets
Your journey begins with a midday pickup from Sandakan Wisma Khoo or Sepilok, where you will wind through rustic villages and emerald oil palm plantations, leaving behind the urban spraw during 2.5-hour drive journey. Transfer to the resort lodge, receive a briefing, then continue to check in into private room or dorm. The golden hour of the jungle beckons at 4:00 PM, continue expedition with a boat and guide in an electric motor that hums softly to avoid frightening wildlife See acrobatic proboscis monkeys tumbling through riverbank trees, their hilarious noses silhouetted against the sunset, as you glide into oxbow lagoons. Return back at the resort and enjoy the dinner, drift asleep to the rhythmic chorus of frogs and cicadas, your AC murmuring against the humid night together with the sound of the wild forest. Overnight in Kinabatangan Resort Lodge.
Day 2: Dawn Pygmy Elephants & Jungle Treks – The Pulse of the Rainforest
Sunrise Symphony - A wake-up call, with mist rising like ghosts from the river as your boat slips into the current. Dawn is prime time for Borneo's "Big Five" and the best time of the day to see wildlife hunting in its natural habitat, particularly gibbons and hornbills. Return for breakfast then embark on a 1-hour jungle trek. Your guide decodes the forest’s secrets: medicinal plants, symbiotic fungi, and claw marks on trees hinting at sun bears. this is no manicured trail but a living, breathing ecosystem where emerald pit vipers drape over branches and gibbon calls echo like laughter. After lunch and downtime with your own activities or nap in a hammock or scan treetops from your balcony, the late-afternoon cruise offers new drama. your guide will be searching for crocodiles, birds, orang-utans, silver leaf monkeys, long-tail and pig-tail macaques, proboscis monkeys, and further! Return back for meal and leisure time. Overnight in Kinabatangan Resort Lodge.
Day 3: Gibbon Choirs & Farewells – The River’s Last Gift
The final morning begins pre-dawn. On the farewell cruise, troops of macaques forage at river’s edge, while giant otters might surface, cracking shellfish on their chests. This is your moment for elusive sightings. Back at the lodge, a hearty breakfast fuels you for the return to Sandakan. As the jungle recedes, you’ll clutch memories: the sulfur scent of dew-laden foliage, the electric thrill of locking eyes with an orangutan, and the river’s timeless flow provides a lifetime experience.
